The “Sell Your Expertise” Edition

Sell Your Expertise OnlineOne of the least expensive items to sell online is your expertise. You already have have it, there are likely folks who want it and, perhaps most  importantly, you have a great way to deliver it via the Internet.

Or do you? Delivery of expertise online, especially if you want to get paid for it, is one of the trickier roadblocks that face infopreneurs, folks like you who want to package and sell knowledge and know-how.

To break through that roadblock, this Matt About Friday post highlights some tools and resources to help get you started selling your expertise online.

5 Ways to Sell Your Expertise Online – a great starting point, this is a post over at the American Express Forums which details 5 methods you can use to sell your expertise online and includes many links to tools to get you started.

Mindbites – this site allows you to upload, market and sell videos and other materials. It’s user-friendly for both seller and buyer and has some neat features such as the ability to bundle a number of videos into one course which can be bought all at once.

Sparkeo – another site that allows you upload and sell your expertise though videos. They have a built-in affiliate solution which is a great way for your to extend your marketing reach.

Knowledge Genie – a blog-like platform that allows you to create a “Genie” which integrates you knowledge delivered in multiple media formats (video, text, etc.) which you can then market and sell.

  1. This was interesting Matt. Honestly, I had no idea these sites and services existed, but it makes a ton of sense. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend. 🙂

    • Hey Marcus, thanks for stopping by!

Yeah, it’s interesting – when I first started out and wanted to sell courses online, nothing like this was around. You had to cobble together 2 or more solutions to create a way to sell video or ebooks or any other infoproduct.

That’s the great thing about markets – someone saw the need and made a product to fill it!

      Great weekend back at ya’!

      -Matt

  2. Isn’t it ironic that anything can be sold these days– and yes, if we can exchange our brains easily, we’ll do it literally..right? I’ve never heard of the sites you’ve mentioned here, Matt… and I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks for sharing, anyway. Now, I just wonder how much my brain will be worth, haha. Cheers! — marissa@garious

    • Marissa,

I was just commenting to a friend yesterday that every job you have is really a job that pays for your brain. Even in a job that is pure physical labor, you need to know what to do and when.

So if you get paid for anything today, you’re already getting paid for what you know. The key is to get paid for your knowledge while sitting on a beach. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and, if you try any of the tools listed, I would love to hear about it!

      -Matt

  3. If everyone has something unique to share (a big supposition) and we’re all sharing online, then currency is kind of a moot point…well, except for things like food, clothing shelter. If we were just brains, life would be so much easier! Just a thought. Thank so much for sharing these great resources!

    • Aysha,

      I totally hear you!

I know a lot of people who would continue to do what they do today even if they won the lottery. Especially when it comes to sharing and teaching, work can be very rewarding beyond financial measure.

However, that food, shelter and clothes thing IS a strong incentive to charge for knowledge. 🙂

      -Matt

  4. I like your article. I have been thinking of selling my ideas about computer tutorials and e-commerce. I don’t know how to do it until I saw this site. I will check out the sites you recommended and will share my knowledge or “brains” as you put in. Thanks for sharing – Engr Jayl Milby

    • Glad you found the post useful!

Would love to hear about your experiences trying out the different sites and tools. If you have a chance once you’ve done so, use the contact form and shoot me an e-mail with an update.

  5. Thanks for sharing this article with us. Another tool we can use to sell our expertise online is Ether. This site allows you to accept phone calls from customers who will pay for your skills and knowledge. You will recieve an Ether phone number, and you can put that number on business cards, websites, or in signature file in forums and emails. Signing up is free and easy, but they take a 15% commission out of your earnings to cover their expenses.
